Do we have any influence over what licence Inprise is going to use? If we
don't, there is little point discussing it, is there?

It would be a pity if Interbase was released under a licence that was
unsatisfactory for those in the Open Source community, though.

Inprise has already had (at least) one incident where they didn't do their
reputation with Linux people much good. They don't need another.

(For those who don't know what I'm talking about:

Sun & Inprise recently released a new Java2 virtual machine for Linux,
which included a lot of code written by volunteers from www.blackdown.org.
When they released it, they issued a press release claiming it showed how
great their dedication to Linux was, but they failed to mention that a fair
amount of the Linux specific code had been written by volunteers outside
either company. They latter issued another press release to make up for it,
but by that time a lot of the people who had worked on the project had been
annoyed by the lack of recognition, and resigned their involvement in the
project.

To be fair to Inprise, it was mostly Sun that was blamed, but a lot of
people still remember Inprise's involvement in a negative light. Another
incident like that might mean many in the Linux community might refuse to
deal with Inprise - like they are now refusing to deal with Sun)
