Think of IBO. There are many places in IBO that accept snippets
of SQL text from the user (you). If IBO wanted to support this
syntactic sugar then it would need to enhance its parsing. My
point was that it does not have to update it's parsing, it is
not missing any important function. (Just as there have been
periods in which it did not properly support -- comments,
another type of syntactic sugar.)
