It has been a long time since the last time I was playing with
compression stuff (years). In that time, at last, there was some
significant "waste of time" when compressing already compressed
data... I mean, compared with just "storing" it.

I'm sure today we have smarter algorithms and maybe my assumption is
no more valid.
