I did work on the ISODE stack for ~3 years - including porting it
to a supercomputer and high end Sun servers, so performance (I managed
to panic a top of the range sun server once a week!), byte order, word
length etc were issues in my work.

Bzzzt! rail axles are truncated cones. The flange is NOT intended to
guide the train, but it does help navigate points. HST "bogey" design
is something else!

I try to be constructive when criticising others. I offered previous
experience with the subject and ended up being called a fool.
If I offended your ego, I apologise as that was not my intention.

IMHO there is nothing wrong with reusing old tech. A few years ago
I used a Pl/SQL driven WPE engine to parse job adverts, extracting
context out of abbreviated english. In this case, 1960's tech did
the job and the client saw this as 'revolutionary'. :-)

If your intention was to ensure I no longer participate in this project
then you are a tad late as we are dropping FB for PgSQL in my current
project.

Good luck,
