I took mental note to remember to call an embedded server "a program
layered on server code" next time I'll raise the issue. Perhaps it
will make a difference among the miscreants, although I somehow feel it
wouldn't. :-)))

But, could you tell such a program wouldn't be "embedding" the server
anyway? Looks like a sophism to me.
