I'm trying to figure out what named constraints for domains would be needed
for. Can you give an example?

To me, a domain is itself a "named cluster of constraints". User-defined
domains in Firebird are in fact "named domains", since a system-controlled,
systematically-named domain is created in the metadata for every database
column.
